Day 6, Watercolors, On the Vine

Sometimes going back to one's comfort zone is a good thing. I like doing the abstracts and oil paintings, but when I do watercolors I feel like I'm home, like I have a lot more control over my work. I assume a lot of that has to do with familiarity. So, I have to push myself to do more in oils. But for today it's all about comfort.

I love growing tomatoes. The problem is; Spike, our lab, loves tomatoes too. Red or green it doesn't matter we'd find them half eaten all over the yard. So we tried to get clever by hanging the plants upside down and putting them in various containers. Nothing really worked very well. Then, one day my husband came home with a huge planter, for shopping malls, which we continue to use. It works well, and Spike can concentrate on the pear and apple trees.

Day 4, Mixed Medium, Doodle 1 and 2

One of my favorite things about doing a 30 in 30 is it's a great time to experiment. I see so many great ideas to try on Pinterest and save them all on a board, "Interesting Art Ideas" for a time such as this.  Today's work came from a U - Tube video. The artist used molding paste and acrylics to add layers of texture. Something I have wanted to try for a long time. So.... seeing that Michael's had 50% off paints this week I purchased 8 new acrylics and paste. I love oils but they are difficult when one is trying to do a painting in one day. It's time to give acrylics a chance again.

I am constantly doing something with my hands, painting, writing, typing or doodling. I use sticky notes all the time to write notes to myself or doodle. There was a time that I thought some of them might make interesting abstracts so I started saving them. Imagine my office with several sticky notes pasted to my computer screen, now add  a pile of sticky notes and odd paper scrapes all over. It wasn't pretty, They had to go. The molding paste gave me the opportunity to doodle as an art form. This isn't quite the direction I want to move in but I think I learned enough to continue on with different shapes.

Day 2,Ink, Boat Landing Road

Day 2 of the challenge and I feel like "BAM, Here's 2015!" Somehow I thought I was going to ease into the new year slowly. Ha Ha. But my planning calendars aren't done! That's okay it's just January 2nd - and I already know what I'm posting on the blog for the month thanks to the 30 in 30.

This is the swamp on the road to the North Twin Boat Landing. It's a picture I've been holding on to for years, not certain what medium I wanted to do it in. I was so pleased to add the solid blacks after I did the drawing with a new marker my husband gave me for Christmas. Instead of the tip of the marker being firm it  was flexible and felt more like painting than drawing - I was thrilled. (I think I'm in love.) The drawing would have been too busy to understand without it. I am also considering adding a touch of color with Prisma Colors. The colors of the photo are mostly greens and yellows with a few browns. What do you think?

Gold and silver dots frame the words "Cheers" on these large wine glasses. Theses hand-painted glasses are perfect for "Martin Fills". (We Martin's don't fool around with our wine... more please.) the paint has been baked on and they are dishwasher safe but I'd wash them by hand just to make sure.
